I hope you’re not sitting in the dark right now, because the trailer for Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark might be the eeriest thing you see all day. Katie Holmes stars in the creepy flick as Kim, a woman who moves with her boyfriend (Guy Pearce) and his young daughter, Sally. They take up residence in an old mansion with the intention to fix it up, but before long, Sally starts hearing strange noises and seeing terrifying images. Before you can say “just move already!” the girl is involved in a full-blown haunting and the family is caught up in a ghostly crisis.
Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, who knows a thing or two about horror, wrote the screenplay, while comic book artist Troy Nixey directed the film, which makes me think that the aesthetic will be more innovative than your usual scary movie. The trailer, meanwhile, manages to make your skin crawl every second you’re watching it, even when it’s not showing much. And when it does show you a glimpse of something, brace yourself (and keep the lights on). Watch it when you read more.
